Roy Keane makes Arsenal Premier League title prediction U-turn - 'I look at the group'

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane believes Arsenal can now clinch the Premier League title following their summer recruitment drive that strengthened their squad considerably. The Gunners brought in Eberechi Eze, Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres, with all four immediately establishing themselves in the starting XI.

Christian Norgaard, Cristhian Mosquera, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Piero Hincapie also joined to bolster their squad depth further still. Max Dowman is now eligible for first-team action this campaign after age restrictions barred the 15-year-old from featuring last season.

Following their 1-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield prior to the September international break, Arsenal now face another examination of their title credentials when they welcome Manchester City. Speaking ahead of that fixture, Keane assessed their title prospects on Sky Sports.

  • Arsenal player ratings vs Man City: Gabriel Martinelli the hero again but two 5/10s struggle
  • What Erling Haaland did to Viktor Gyokeres during Arsenal vs Man City speaks volumes

"Liverpool have done what they've been good at for the last year," he acknowledged. "Winning football matches.

"They've put the pressure back on Arsenaland City. City, already having lost two league games, you have to think that if they lost today, there would be a long way back [to win the league].

"So, very much pressure on both teams. If you're looking at both squads, you're thinking Arsenal probably are going to be the nearest rivals to Liverpool.

"A big pressure, even today, you think a draw; a draw wouldn't even be great for Arsenal. They certainly have the players and all the capabilities of beating City.

"Over the last few years, every time I've seen City at Arsenal, in terms of trying to win the league title, I've never felt Arsenal had enough, had enough strength in depth, obviously [they] lacked that striker. I look at Arsenal's group of players now... I think they certainly have the players capable of winning the league."

Keane's fellow pundit Micah Richards later suggested they would be wrong to write City off if they lost. But the Irishman interjected: "You will have to if they lose.

"Liverpool only lost four [matches] last season, so if you lose three [times] already into September..."
