Regarding the school children of Delhi, the Rekha Gupta government had appealed to the Transport Department to provide DTC facilities to government schools soon, to which the department has also given its reply.
The BJP government of Delhi will soon resume bus service in the schools of the capital. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has told the department about this. After this, the department informed that bus service will be started again in the schools. Information about when school children will get this service has not been revealed yet.
The department gave the answer
According to a report, on the initiative of the Chief Minister, DTC Manager (Transport) AK Rao said that it is being informed that while continuing the normal bus service for the general passengers, DTC is providing buses to some schools as per their requirement, even if there is a shortage of CNG buses.
CM had written a letter
Let us inform you that Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had written a letter to the department and appealed that DTC bus services for school children have been closed since 2022. This decision caused problems to the parents and the safety of school children was also at risk. In such circumstances, private vans/cabs were resorted to, due to which incidents like sexual harassment and crime against innocent children by van/cab drivers keep happening. Depriving school children of safe, affordable and reliable transport in a densely populated city with high crime rate and jam-packed traffic is tantamount to depriving them of the fundamental rights recognized by the Constitution of India 1950.
Madras High Court's comment cited
Further wrote, in the year 2022, the government purchased hundreds of buses, but buses were not made available for government school children. Leaving the transport of children to the mercy of the school to get to and from school cannot be considered right at any cost. Madras High Court was also cited in the letter. The letter said that the Madras High Court in one of its decisions said that buses should be provided exclusively for school children and their number should be increased.
Buses will be rented in schools
Further, the Delhi government said that DTC is providing buses to some schools as per their requirement. In a reply letter, the DTC management issued a guideline under the order at the time of setting up the school cell, which said that the central government has approved for renting DTC buses to public government schools, the work of renting buses to schools should be such that the services for common passengers are not affected.
