Sri Lankan legend Angelo Mathews brought the curtain down on his illustrious Test career after the opening match against Bangladesh in Galle.
The 37-year-old ends with 8,241 runs in 119 Tests at an average of 44.4, alongside 33 wickets. He received a guard of honour from Bangladesh and heartfelt applause from fans.
Mathews, who debuted in 2009 and captained Sri Lanka in 34 Tests, said, I cant believe the love Ive received. Its overwhelming.rdquo; Reflecting on career highlights, he named the 3-0 whitewash of Australia and the Headingley win in 2014. As Sri Lankas third-highest run-scorer, Mathews exits with grace, leaving the future in the hands of the next generation.
