The Indian Premier League (IPL) will finally be back in action, and the teams will be looking forward to getting their season underway. There will be some interesting changes in the teams as well, with some key players being unavailable for the series on resumption.
T20 cricket is known to be a batter's format, and this time it is time to discuss who has the best batting order going into the back-end of the tournament. Certain key batters won’t be available for the team for the remainder of the tournament, which could also affect the batting strength of a team in these last few crucial games.
The batting squads will be judged based on the form of key players, depth, and consistency the teams have shown in the tournament so far, and how the sudden changes after the suspension of the tournament have affected it. It is time to take a look at which team might be the strongest and which team look slightly weak going into the business end of the league stage.
Here are the ratings for the batting squads for all ten teams in the tournament: 10. Rajasthan Royals- 6/10It has not been a great season for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) batters, who have been very inconsistent in the tournament. Though there have been glimpses of great batting from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag, the rest of the lineup has had an underwhelming season so far.
9. Sunrisers Hyderabad- 6.5/10The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) squad does have some talented batters, but none of them have lived up to their expectations. Though there have been some great innings at the top and glimpses of brilliance from the middle order, the batter's performances have lacked consistency.
8. Kolkata Knight Riders- 6.5/10The Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) batting has been a huge question mark this season. Despite having a deep batting lineup, the only batter who seems to be showing consistency throughout the tournament is Ajinkya Rahane, which has been one of the reasons for their poor title defence this year.
7. Chennai Super Kings- 7/10
The batting of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) might have struggled in the beginning, but they have seemed to have found their feet a bit in the second half of the tournament. The likes of Ayush Mhatre and Dewald Brevis have added that extra intent, along with Jadeja and Dhoni, also scoring crucial runs lower down the order.
6. Lucknow Super Giants- 7/10Though the bowling department of the Lucknow franchise might be struggling with their economy, the batting has been fairly decent and has helped them to stay alive in the tournament. Apart from the performance of their skipper, the top three batters in Nicholas Pooran, Mitchell Marsh, and Aiden Markram have been great at the top. On the other hand, Abdul Samad and Ayush Badoni have also made some great contributions.
5. Mumbai Indians- 8/10The Mumbai Indians are another team that has a deep batting lineup filled with match-winners. Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav have been the key performers at the top, with players like Naman Dhir and Hardik Pandya showing their big hits down the order as well. This is also the reason for the resurgence in the second half of the tournament.
4. Delhi Capitals- 8.5/10The Delhi Capitals' batting has been solid throughout the season, except for the last two games they have featured in. Senior players in the form of Faf du Plessis, KL Rahul, and Axar Patel have played their role to perfection. On the other hand, there have been decent contributions from young and upcoming stars in Tristan Stubbs, Ashutosh Sharma, and Abhishek Porel.
3. Punjab Kings- 8.5/10
The Punjab Kings' batting order has been one of the best this season, with the young openers in Prabhsimran and Arya giving great starts and skipper Shreyas Iyer being in incredible form. The contributions of Shashank Singh and Nehal Wadhera add a lot more strength to the batting department as well.
2. Royal Challengers Bengaluru- 9/10This has by far been one of the best seasons for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and their batting this year has been one of the highlights. The Bengaluru franchise not only has a strong top order with the likes of , Philip Salt, and Rajat Patidar, but also has some great finishers in Jitesh Sharma, Tim David, and Romario Shepherd, who have thrived on every opportunity they have had so far.
1. Gujarat Titans- 9.5/10
There is a reason the Gujarat Titans are one of the favourites to win the tournament this season, and one of the key factors is their strong batting lineup. The top three batters in , Sai Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler have been among the runs and are one the key players for the franchise. Their middle order is also filled with some dangerous batters, which makes this the best batting squad in the tournament.
