Alia Bhatt has consistently delivered powerful performances and enjoyed impressive success at the box office. However, the ongoing debate around nepotism has continued to linger around her career. Despite her achievements and growth as an actress, the perception that her rise was made easier due to her family background hasn’t faded completely. In a recent conversation, her father and veteran filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt stepped forward to share his thoughts on her journey, shedding light on her beginnings and personal drive.
A Surprising Audition and an Unexpected Revelation
In a conversation with Himanshu Mehta on The Himanshu Mehta Show, Mahesh Bhatt reflected on his daughter’s entry into the film industry. Contrary to public perception, he clarified that he was not involved in launching her acting career. He noted that Alia's breakthrough came through filmmaker Karan Johar, who cast her after she independently auditioned for a role.
Mahesh admitted he was taken aback by the news, as he had never noticed a strong inclination towards acting in her while she was growing up. It was only after hearing about her successful audition that he realised the depth of her passion. He emphasized that her achievements are largely a result of her own hard work and determination, describing her as someone who has earned her place through relentless effort.
". I’m very happy she’s a self-made girl,” he said.
Admiration from Her Partner
Mahesh Bhatt also shared insights about his son-in-law, 'Animal' star Ranbir Kapoor’s perspective on Alia. According to Mahesh, Ranbir is deeply impressed by her relentless energy and ambition. Unlike his own relaxed and content nature, Ranbir finds Alia’s drive to constantly take on new challenges quite remarkable. Her hunger to evolve and take on varied roles is something that even those closest to her admire.
“He says, ‘Alia is made of different stuff.’ When I ask him, ‘What do you mean?,’ he says, ‘Her ambition to do more and more and more is unbelievably astounding!’ While he’s a person who’s very laid-back and comfortable, and he just wants to do enough. She’s a go-getter,” stated Bhatt Sr.
Looking Ahead: Thrillers and Romance on the Horizon
Alia Bhatt’s professional slate remains busy. She will soon headline Alpha, a spy thriller directed by Shiv Rawail and backed by Yash Raj Films. As part of the YRF Spy Universe, the film is expected to hit theatres on December 25. In 2026, she is also set to appear in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War, alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal, promising yet another emotionally intense cinematic experience.
