Grand Theft Auto 6 will arrive on 26 May 2026, marking the franchise’s first mainline release in over a decade. Two trailers are already live. The first offered glimpses of the world, while the second introduced the lead characters, Jason and Lucia.

At launch, the game will be available on PlayStation 5, PS5 Slim, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. A PC version is expected, but not for at least two years after release.

Price still a mystery
Pricing is the biggest question among fans. Industry trends suggest AAA games now launch at $80, and some analysts have speculated GTA 6 could go as high as $100 for the base edition.

Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Strauss Zelnick told Variety, “Our goal always is to deliver more value than what we charge, so we’ve had variable pricing at the company forever. As you know, the approach of the industry is to launch at a premium price, sometimes with special editions, and over time, typically to reduce the price to enhance the overall size of the market. We do the very same thing. I think, probably more than most, we’re highly focused on making sure that the experience is great, not just because the game itself is great, but also because consumers have paid a fair price for it.”

Unofficial leaks suggest regional prices could be ₹5,999 in India, $70 in the US, AED 257 in Dubai and £55 in the UK for the Standard Edition. Deluxe and Ultimate Editions could cost as much as ₹10,999 in India and $125 in the US.

The longest story in GTA history
Reports indicate GTA 6 will be split into five chapters, following Jason and Lucia in a Bonnie and Clyde-inspired plot. The campaign is expected to take around 75 hours to complete — far longer than GTA 5’s 30–35 hours or Red Dead Redemption 2’s 50 hours.

The main setting is Leonida, Rockstar’s fictional version of Florida, with Vice City at its centre. Other in-game locations will include Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Ambrosia, Mount Kalaga and Port Gellhorn. Fans have spotted hints that part of the game could take place in Liberty City, after a number plate was seen in the second trailer.

New gameplay features
GTA 6 will keep the open-world crime gameplay the series is known for, but with new additions. These include a female protagonist, a “love meter” system, and an in-game social media platform. The map will be larger and more detailed, with over a dozen new areas to explore.

Take-Two’s earnings surge
Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, posted stronger-than-expected results for the quarter ending 30 June 2025. Net bookings hit $1.42 billion, well above Wall Street forecasts of $1.32 billion. GAAP net revenue came in at $1.5 billion, with a GAAP loss per share of 7 cents compared to an expected loss of 72 cents.

The results were driven by the performance of NBA 2K25, GTA Online and several mobile titles. Looking ahead, Take-Two expects strong sales from Mafia: The Old Country, Borderlands 4 and NBA 2K26.

The company has raised its full-year net bookings projection for fiscal 2026 to between $6.05 billion and $6.15 billion, though it still expects a GAAP net loss of $377 million to $442 million. For the July–September quarter, it forecasts net bookings of $1.7–1.75 billion, with a GAAP loss per share of 60–75 cents.
