A job seeker recently called out recruiters for sending them an impersonal, AI-generated rejection letter, leading to the recruiting team getting miffed. Taking to the popular Recruiting Hell subreddit, the individual shared a hilarious post about how the recruiters didn’t even bother sending them a proper rejection email and relied on a generic AI-generated template.
“So I got a clear AI-generated rejection email that doesn't even look like they tried.
Look, I did not take this to heart and just responded being funny. Apparently, the actual human responded. I can't believe this is actually happening. We are cooked. Lol,” they wrote.
The job seeker’s tongue-in-cheek reply to the AI-generated email read, “I do appreciate the efficient use of automated responses. It’s great to see AI streamlining the hiring process, even if it sometimes forgets to proofread itself. Wishing you and your templates all the best!”
Recruiter Hits Back
The job seeker’s snarky mail hit a nerve, and the employer was quick to respond. A part of it read, “The tone of your email was unnecessarily dismissive.”
“I hope that in your future interactions with employers, you will extend the same courtesy and understanding you would expect to receive. We wish you the best in your career endeavours…” they added.
Reddit Reacts
The post went viral in the subreddit, garnering more than 4.2K likes. Redditors flooded the comment section with hilarious responses. One comment read, “You were wrong to call it AI. AI wouldn't have made that mistake. That was a recruiter that just didn't care.”
Another quipped, “This is a result of them doing a bulk rejection through their applicant tracking system after hiring their candidate and sending an email merge to the entire list of non selected resumes. When you see this, it means the fields that the template pulled from ended up being left blank in the applicant’s profile (or something along these lines). Maybe the applicant’s profile unique identifier was only their email address.”
“If HR can't manage the application review process properly or competently, how do you think they would have handled your tenure at this company, especially if called upon to mediate something on your behalf? You dodged a bullet with this. Incompetence at the doorstep is a clear indicator of widespread incompetence within…” Read another comment.
