Tribute to his unparalleled contribution: Mallikarjun Kharge remembers Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge paid tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary on Thursday, highlighting his significant contributions to the nation.

Kharge recalled Shastri's speech in 1965, where he emphasised India's progress since independence. He also praised Shastri's unparalleled contribution to the nation, mentioning his key initiatives such as land reforms, the foundation for the dairy and green revolutions, and improvements in the transportation sector.

In a post on X, Kharge said, " In 1965, at a village gathering in Allahabad, Lal Bahadur Shastri ji had said that -- "In the 10-12 years of independence, the country has made progress that did not happen in 200 years of British rule. Airplanes and motor vehicles are being made here. New dams, new canals are being built, hospitals, schools, and roads are being constructed."


On the birth anniversary of our ideal, former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri ji, we respectfully pay tribute to his unparalleled contribution to the nation.


From land reforms to laying the foundation for the dairy and green revolutions, from abolishing the third class in railways to reserving seats for women in buses, from the 1965 war to serving the nation through his Gandhian ideals--he demonstrated his unique sense of duty in every field. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat on the occasion of his birth anniversary. Union Minister Manohar Lal accompanied the Prime Minister during the tribute ceremony.

On Wednesday, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge stated that the pacemaker implantation procedure for Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge was successfully completed, and he has been stable.

In a post shared on X, Priyank Kharge said, "The pacemaker implantation procedure for Sri. Kharge was successfully completed earlier today. It was a short and minor procedure and he has been stable after the procedure. He is expected to resume his work from October 3 and attend all his scheduled engagements. Our gratitude for the concern, support and affection extended by all.

Earlier, Karnataka IT Minister and son of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyank Kharge, shared an update on his father's health, stating that he is stable and doing well.In a post on X on Wednesday, Priyank said, "Sri Kharge was advised a pacemaker to be implanted and is admitted to the hospital for the planned procedure. He is stable and doing well..."

All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Mallikarjun Kharge was admitted to a hospital in Bengaluru on Wednesday morning for medical treatment.
