Stray Dogs Case Latest News: The issue related to stray dogs is in the headlines these days. During a hearing on August 11, the Supreme Court ordered that the stray dogs of Delhi-NCR should be caught and kept in shelter homes permanently, and they should not be released on the streets again. This order was given given the increasing cases of dog bites and deaths due to fatal rabies infection. During the hearing on the same matter on Thursday (August 14), the court has reserved its decision.

It is worth noting that cases of stray dog bites have increased rapidly in the country in recent months. In a similar case, Uttar Pradesh state-level Kabaddi player Brijesh Solanki (22) recently died of rabies. According to media reports, he was bitten by a dog; however, after this incident, due to some reasons, he could not get an anti-rabies injection. Due to this, the symptoms of the disease started increasing rapidly, which led to his death.
You must have often seen such cases going viral on social media. Health experts say that rabies is a fatal viral disease, making it almost impossible to save the lives of the victims.
According to an estimate, 59,000 people die every year due to rabies worldwide. However, rabies can be prevented through vaccination and treatment after the bite of infected animals. During the hearing of the stray dogs case in the Supreme Court, senior advocate Siddharth Luthra said that we have submitted the medical report of a person admitted to Breach Candy Hospital, and people are troubled. There is one stray dog for every 24 people.
If we look at the data of the year 2024, it is known that this year alone, more than 37 lakh cases of dog bites were reported across the country, out of which about 54 people died due to suspected rabies. Not only this, in January 2025 alone, more than 50 thousand cases of dog bites were reported in Maharashtra-Gujarat.
Why is rabies considered so dangerous?
Health experts say that rabies is a deadly virus that spreads to people through the saliva of infected animals. The most serious thing is that once a person starts showing symptoms of rabies, it becomes almost impossible to save their life. This is why people who may be at risk of getting rabies (such as people who come in contact with dogs and other animals) are advised to get rabies vaccine as a precaution.
