New Delhi: This year, the monsoon is moving very fast. It is reaching the coast of Kerala one week early. This will be the fastest monsoon arrival in India in the last 16 years. According to the weather department, there is a possibility that monsoon will enter both Karnataka and Kerala at the same time, which is rare. Overall, the signs of monsoon are positive right now. If you are also waiting for rain to get relief from heat, then first understand how the monsoon usually moves across India.
How does the monsoon move?
Usually, the monsoon reaches Kerala by the end of May. By 8th July, it covers the whole country. If we look at its pattern, the monsoon slows down a bit in Central India. Sometimes, after a fast start, it stops for a few days. So even if it starts early, it doesn’t mean it will cover the country early. It depends on how strong the rains are during that time. For now, the good news is that the weather department finds the conditions favourable for a good monsoon.
When will it rain at your home?
If the monsoon is moving fast this year, some parts of the country may get rain earlier than usual.
In India, the monsoon rain officially starts from May 20 when it reaches the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Normally, it reaches Kerala by the end of May. But this year, it has arrived one week early.
Usually, by June 5, most parts of South India and the North East start getting rain. This time, these areas may get rain by the end of May itself.
By June 10, monsoon reaches Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and comes close to Maharashtra. This year, rains may reach these areas even before this time.
By June 15, rain spreads over all of South India, the eastern coastal regions, Maharashtra, and the North East. It also reaches the border of Gujarat.
By June 20, the monsoon reaches parts of Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and most of Madhya Pradesh. By this time, more than two-thirds of India receives rain.
By June 30, rain reaches Delhi. By this time, the whole country is covered by monsoon, except some parts of Rajasthan and Punjab. By July 8, the monsoon covers the entire country.
