Mumbai Crime: 16-Year-Old Minor Damages BEST Bus, Autorickshaws And Water Tanker With Sword In Bhandup, Booked For Attempt To Murder; VIDEO

Mumbai: A 16-year-old boy damaged a BEST bus, several autorickshaws, and a water tanker with a sword on Saturday in Bhandup West. At the time of the attack, passengers were present inside the bus. Reportedly, the boy committed the act in a fit of rage after being scolded by his uncle.

Based on a complaint filed by the bus driver, the Bhandup police registered a case against the minor under sections 109(1) (Attempt to murder), 324(5) (Mischief causing loss of one lakh rupees or more), 126(2) (Wrongful restraint), 351(3) (Criminal intimidation), and 352 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant sections of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act and the Indian Arms Act. The incident took place on April 19.

According to the police, the incident occurred between 3:10 PM and 3:25 PM at Miniland Society, Tank Road, Bhandup West. The 16-year-old was playing nearby when his uncle arrived and scolded him over an undisclosed matter. In a fit of rage, the boy went away, returned with a sword, and reached the road where a BEST bus (MH 01 AP 0882) was passing.

He threatened the bus driver, prevented him from driving, and hit the vehicle’s windows with the sword while verbally abusing him. The damage to the bus was estimated at ₹70,000. The boy then proceeded to damage several autorickshaws parked nearby and a water tanker.

The bus driver, Dhyaneshwar Rathor, 42, a resident of Badlapur, filed a complaint with the Bhandup police, after which the case was registered. The minor, a resident of Triveni Sangam, Bhandup West, is known to be a history-sheeter. Three serious cases, including one for attempted to murder, were reportedly registered against him last year at the same police station.

A police officer stated, "His father is also a criminal, and a few cases have already been filed against the minor in the past. There was a family dispute between him and his maternal uncle, and during an argument over that issue, his uncle scolded him. He had a sword at home, which he used in the incident. We will be sending him to a juvenile home."
