Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited the Disaster Management Cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) to review the city’s preparedness ahead of the pre-monsoon season. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rainfall for the Thane district.

Shinde stated that the Disaster Management team is on high alert, emphasizing that preventing any loss of life remains a top priority. He directed the team to remain available 24/7 and to respond swiftly to any complaints. Two senior officers have been appointed in two shifts to oversee operations and ensure prompt action.

According to the TMC, 66 high-capacity pumps have been installed at 38 locations to drain accumulated water. So far, a total of 135 mm of rainfall has been recorded, though no complaints of waterlogging have been received yet.

Rain gauges are operational at six locations, and flood sensors have been installed in six major drains. Staff have been deployed at 43 sites identified as vulnerable to rain-related disruptions. Additionally, Deputy Chief Minister Shinde informed that a TDRF team comprising 29 personnel has also been deployed.

Of the 90 buildings classified as dangerous under the C-1 category, 42 are currently vacant. Residents of six such buildings have already been relocated to safer accommodations, and efforts are ongoing to relocate 197 more families, he added.

Citizens have been advised not to believe in rumors and to rely only on official government communications. Deputy Chief Minister Shinde also urged the public to avoid taking shelter in unsafe structures during the monsoon.

Additionally, MP Naresh Mhaske, MLA Jitendra Awhad, and District Collector Ashok Shingare also visited the Disaster Management Cell to assess Thane’s monsoon preparedness. MP Mhaske instructed officials to closely monitor waterlogging-prone areas and to take immediate action upon receiving any disaster-related complaints.

The Thane Municipal Corporation has appealed to residents to contact the Disaster Management Cell at 1800-222-108 or 8657887101 in the event of any natural disaster.
