But it is being said that Shami will be out of this tour due to fitness while Bumrah will also not play the entire 5 matches. Fitness update of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami

According to a report in The Indian Express, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical team has told the board that Mohammed Shami will not be able to bowl for a long time. His chances of playing all 5 matches are also low. 

 

Regarding Jasprit Bumrah, it was told in the report that he has already informed the BCCI that his body is not capable of playing more than 3 Test matches. 

If the reports are to be believed and Bumrah does not play all the 5 Tests on the England tour, then it is difficult for him to be chosen as the captain. In such a situation, Shubman Gill can be the captain on this tour.

The report quoted a BCCI source as saying, "Mohammed Shami is bowling his full spell for Sunrisers Hyderabad but the board and selectors do not know whether he can bowl more than 10 overs in a day or not. England pitches may demand long spells from fast bowlers, so no risk can be taken."

Talking about Mohammad Shami's performance in this season, he bowled 180 balls in 9 matches, conceded 337 runs and took only 6 wickets. His economy was more than 11 (11.23). 

Last test was played in June 2023

Shami has been in and out of the team due to injury for a long time. Talking about his Test career, he played his last Test match against Australia in June 2023. He could not play in the last Border Gavaskar Trophy due to injury. In Test cricket, Shami has 229 wickets in 122 innings in 64 matches.
