15 Years of Heart and Soul: Healthwatch Celebrates a Decade and a Half in High-Tech Healthcare

Healthwatch, India’s leading heart-rhythm monitoring company, has turned fifteen, triggering lavish celebrations.

There’s a spring in the step of the staff as ‘Wavepool’, the company’s anniversary gala, moved to Chennai this week (on 03 Aug), following the spirited kickoff in Salem last Sunday. New Delhi will host the next celebration in the coming weeks.

Founder-CEO, Dr (Hon) S. Senthil Kandeepan remarks, “Despite the amount of work we’ve packed into the last fifteen years, they feel no longer than fifteen months, proof that time flies when listening to the heart.”

This is no hyperbole. The company has clocked staggering numbers since its inception since 2010, having interpreted over 3 billion hours of ECG, ticking at a rate of some 300,000 hours for over 25,000 patients every day.

“We started in 2010 with the dream of making a difference,” recalls Dr Kandeepan, who considers himself a social entrepreneur more than a businessperson. “We didn’t expect that we’d bring a revolution.”

With more clients added in FY 2024-25, Healthwatch is pegged to fully continue its impressive growth trajectory.

“The value we offer is what has endeared us to clients from four continents,” he says. “And quality and efficiency are our hallmarks.”

Clearly, Healthwatch has earned a unique place in global healthcare on the back of the talent and rigour of its outstanding staff. It is this contribution to the abiding longevity of Healthwatch that Wavepool recognizes with awards in over a dozen categories of excellence and tenure length.

The event, compered by a regular MC, is also jam packed with cultural performances and fun games, apart from absorbing keynote speeches by Dr Kandeepan, where he highlights the milestones achieved and sets the tone for the year ahead.

“This year,” he says, “I’ll be focusing on the thing I’m personally most satisfied about–our charity work,” referring to the construction of the brand-new ‘Vanshika Block’ facility at the Vama Trust daily care home for the elderly in southern Tamil Nadu and the free medical bootcamps delivered to Chennai residents via CHC Pharmacy, the latest flowering in the tree of the CHC Group of Companies and an entirely new business unit of Healthwatch in Chennai.

Modeled on the “people-first healthcare” principle conceived by Dr Kandeepan, CHC Pharmacy offers branded medicine, daily essentials and a family clinic in a friendly neighbourhood outlet. Features include free home delivery and at-home blood sample collection, physiotherapy and even doctor visits.

“We are not one to rest on our laurels just because Healthwatch has been such an emphatic success,” Dr Kandeepan quips vehemently. “That is simply not how we work at Healthwatch. We’re always on the lookout to bring more value to people’s lives.”

He adds that the idea behind CHC Pharmacy is to make primary and personal healthcare more accessible and empathetic and offer a service that feels more like a relationship than a series of transactions. With two branches – West Mambalam and Valasaravakkam, opened in very quick time, CHC Pharmacy’s traction has been precipitous.

“I had first presented the concept of CHC Pharmacy to our team some time last year, at Wavepool 2024,” recalls Dr Kandeepan. “To see it not only having manifested but also enjoying such popularity is just fantastic.”

When asked about the plan for the future, Dr Kandeepan is playfully cryptic and effortlessly witty. “Putting our heart and soul into everything we do, as always,” he says. “But first, there’s a party to enjoy, for having done that for fifteen years.”
