Alan Shearer believes there is "no doubt" that Viktor Gyokeres would score goals if he joins Arsenal. The Swedish hitman has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium all summer.
The Gunners' sporting directorAndrea Berta recently flew out to Portugal in a bid to thrash out a deal with Sporting Lisbon for Gyokeres, although a move for the forward is understood to be on the rocks at the moment. He is the north Londoners' No. 1 target, who has already rejected the advances of Manchester United.
The ex-Coventry City forward is understood to have a price tag of at least £70million on his head. Mikel Arteta's side have been in the market for a No. 9 for the best part of two seasons, having previously been linked witha move for Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig.

However, Gyokeres is understood to be the prioritywith personal terms already agreed between Arsenal and the Scandinavian. If a deal does get over the line, Shearer thinks the 27-year-old is guaranteed to score goals.
When asked if he is the right man, Shearer told the Rest is Football podcast: "Yeah, that’s what they need. We’ve been saying it and it’s what they needed last summer.
"When you look at his numbers over the last couple of years, they are outstanding. They are off the charts good. They are such impressive numbers.
"That’s exactly what Arsenal have needed and there is no doubt, in that team, he will score goals. That’s what their fans have demanded and needed, so they will be a huge threat as well.”

For the third consecutive season, Arsenal finished in second place. They were 10 points behind eventual champions Liverpool last season, who also scored 17 more goals than them in the Premier League.
Gyokeres is seen as the final piece of the puzzle for the Gunners, who enjoyed the best defensive record in the Premier League last season. He has contributed 97 goals and 28 assists in 102 appearances for Sporting, inspiring them to two consecutive Primeira Liga titles and one Taca de Portugal.
Last season was his most impressive to date, contributing 54 goals and 13 assists in just 52 appearances. However, reports in Portugal claim a deal is on the brink of collapsing as a result of the negotiations between Arsenal and Sporting.
It's understood that Arsenal and Sporting are struggling to agree a fee for the towering forward. According to Record, there is a €5m (£4.3m) gap between the valuation of Gyokeres between the two clubs.
The Gunners are believed to be willing to pay a package of €65m (£56m) plus future payments of €5m (£4.3m) and €10m (£8.6m) in add-ons, while Sporting are demanding €70m (£60m) up front. Arsenal have already announced the signatures of Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
The capture of Brentford captain Christian Norgaard was also announced by the north Londoners. As well as Gyokeres, they also remain in talks with Chelsea for versatile winger Noni Madueke, who they have already agreed personal terms with according to reports from the Athletic.
