Downton Abbey's very own Matthew Goode, famed for his portrayal of Henry Talbot, headlines the supernatural series A Discovery of Witches. This British fantasy sensation springs from the pages of Deborah Harkness's book trilogy and centres around hesitant witch Diana Bishop.
She unearths an enchanted manuscript in Oxford's esteemed Bodleian Library, plunging her into a world filled with magical intrigue.
Matthew Clairmont, a mysterious biochemist and vampire played by the Downton stalwart, offers his assistance to Diana. Despite the deep-seated distrust between witches and vampires, they forge a partnership to guard the enchanted text and unravel its secrets.

Spanning 25 episodes, A Discovery of Witches aired its last instalment in February 2022, but new admirers continue to stumble upon the show, expressing their enchantment with it, reports the Express.
One viewer described: "Discovery of Witches is a captivating series that masterfully blends romance, fantasy, and history, making it a must-watch for fans of the supernatural."
Another fan shared their thoughts: "Discovery of Witches is a mesmerizing blend of magic, romance, and rich historical intrigue. From the first episode, I was completely captivated by the dynamic between Diana Bishop, and Matthew Clairmont- perfect casting with Teresa Palmer & Matthew Goode."
And they added: "The show beautifully adapts Deborah Harkness's novel, bringing to life the forbidden romance and supernatural world of witches, vampires, and demons."
One viewer was captivated, sharing: "So good. Watched it in May 2024. Not sure how I didn't hear of this before, but it's absolutely amazing! I binged it obviously and no regrets! I couldn't stop watching and it seems it's an adaptation from books and by that analogy, it's like how you're addicted to a story book that's so good that you can't put it down unless you finished it."
They continued with high praise for the cast: "I didn't read the books and I may not ever do so. This series with its amazing cast and characters will always remain in my mind. Mathew and Diana were so good and their chemistry was astounding!"
The fan expressed their support for the on-screen couple: "I was rooting for them all the way/ a few other interesting and well liked characters are mathews' mum, Diana's aunts, Markus and his gf, and ofc galo glass. The time travel element is so amazing, what a beautiful story."
Concluding their review, they recommended: "Without any spoilers - it's a much watch. The series will surely take you on a mesmerizing journey."
However, another viewer was less than thrilled, criticising: "Really bad/ lame should have been titled A Discovery of Normal People playing as vampires/ demans & witches/ Deborah Harkness made this TV series as a chic flick."
They elaborated on their disappointment: "The demans/ vampires & witches weren't even portrayed as they should have been in folklore /movies/ books & TV shows/ its basically the Twilight movie series but for 2024/ if you loved the Twilight movies then this TV show is right up ur alley!".
