Good Morning Britain fans 'crying' as Susanna Reid fights tears during war hero interview

Good Morning Britain viewers were left reaching for the tissues after an emotional segment with , who was seen holding back tears while interviewing a war veteran.

Hosting the programme from Westminster Abbey in London to mark the 80th VE Day celebrations, news anchor Susanna took a moment for a heartfelt conversation with Thomas, a war hero who candidly shared his poignant memories from World War II and VE Day.

As she concluded her interview with Thomas, Susanna's voice quivered with emotion as she expressed her gratitude for his service. The gesture of shaking his hand reverently, Susanna also recalled: "Thank you so much for your service, it's so lovely to see you again because we first met six years ago didn't we, after you had been flirting with !"

Despite facing some criticism for her presentation style prior, viewers flocked to social media to commend the sensitive exchange. A touched fan commented: "Oh @susannareid100 watching you talking to Thomas has made me cry. You were so lovely with him."

On May 8, 1945, known as Victory in Europe Day or V-E Day, the rejoiced at the conclusion of World War II in Europe. The war had raged on for nearly half a decade when Allied forces, inclusive of U.S. troops, initiated a large-scale invasion on Normandy's beaches in France on June 6, 1944.

Today (May 8th), Prime Minister Sir , and will be present at the V-E Day service. A nationwide two-minute silence is also scheduled for midday.

Over the weekend, the significant occasion was commemorated with various special events, including a military parade through central London and a ceremonial flypast over and the Mall.
