In the realm of laundry, countless products promise to restore the brightness of your whites, but there's an eco-friendly kitchen staple that can do wonders without breaking the bank.
Astonishingly, a mere 30p gets you this natural whitener from Sainsbury's – it's none other than the humble lemon, particularly its juice. The acid goes beyond merely lightening bed linens; it serves as a kinder and more wallet-friendly alternative to aggressive chemicals. Daniel Ufland, founder of Flitch, has offered his insights on employing this citrus fruit for bedsheet brightening.
As reports the Express, Daniel said: "Aside from its culinary uses, lemon juice proves to be a versatile household remedy.

"Its natural bleaching properties offer a refreshing alternative to harsh chemicals, leaving your bed sheets brilliantly white while minimising environmental impact."
How to use lemon juice to get those sheets sparklingBefore you put your bed sheets into the washing machine, check them for marks.
Lemon juice excels at dismantling stains when applied directly for 10 to 15 minutes thanks to its innate bleach-like characteristics, all while being gentler than conventional cleaners.
Prepare the laundryOnce, you have let it sit you can then place your bed sheets into the washing machine.
Set the temperature that you normally would along with detergent and soap powder.
Next, instead of using fabric softener, add half to one cup of lemon juice into the washing machine when it is on the rinse cycle. Its inherent acidity is the secret weapon for achieving whiter fabrics.
Proceed with washing and dryingMake sure to run the washing machine on a cycle that you normally use. After this, put the bed sheets into a dryer or hang them to dry.
Enjoy the fresh bed sheetFinally, once they have dried you will notice that the material will look noticeably brighter than before. This is due to the natural bleaching of the lemon juice.
This technique isn't limited to bedding – apply it to clothing too for that sought-after snowy finish.
