Netflix adds 'brutal' crime drama that 'gets under your skin'

Netflix has quietly added a Braziliancrime thriller that viewers claim 'gets under your skin'.

Rivers of Fate (original title Pssica) landed onthe streamer last week and is already receiving high praises. Set in northern Brazil, against the backdrop of the Amazon, the four-part seriesis based on a novel of the same name by Edyr Augusto.

It follows strangers Janalice (Domithila Catete), Preá (Lucas Galvino) and Mariangel (Marleyda Soto), who unexpectedly cross paths.

When Janalice is kidnapped by a sex trafficking ring, criminal gang leader Preá and local mother Mariangel embark on separate journeys to find her, and their paths converge.

The miniseries has impressed critics and viewers alike, earning an 80% Rotten Tomatoes score from five pundits. Early reviews have praised its intense storyline and plot twists.

Archi Sengupta, a film critic for Leisure Byte, penned in their verdict: "Rivers of Fate is a moving and impactful series that gets under your skin."

Meanwhile, audience reviews are slowly pouring in on IMDb, where one casual fan gushed about the Portuguese-language drama. They said: "Rivers of Fate completely captivated me. From the very first scene to the last moment, it's electrifying in its pace and atmosphere."

The viewer continued, praising the show's rich cultural setting: "The characters are deeply rooted in the culture of northern Brazil, making the story feel authentic and powerful. It bravely explores a delicate yet vital subject, one that deserves to be debated.

"I'm watching it for the second time, and it still feels just as intense, necessary, and unforgettable."

A second viewer shared a glowing review and confessed: "I binged the whole series in one day."

On X, formerly Twitter, another fanatic raved: "Pssica (Rivers of Fate) is brutal, intense and beautiful. An immersion in the Amazon that mixes crime, mysticism and social denunciation."

Someone else compared the new show to other beloved dramas, writing: "Rivers of Fate on Netflix has to be the BEST series ever after American Horror Story and BlackMirror."

The limited drama was co-created by Oscar-nominated writer Bráulio Mantovani, alongside Fernando Garrido and Stephanie Degreas.
