The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has intensified its attack on the Rekha Gupta-led BJP government in Delhi over the proposed Private School Fee Regulation Bill. Accusing the BJP of favoring private institutions, AAP has begun seeking public opinion on the bill and holding direct consultations with parents.
Atishi Meets Parents, Promises to Be Their VoiceOn Wednesday, Leader of Opposition Atishi met parents of students studying in Delhi's private schools at the Delhi Vidhan Sabha. The meeting was aimed at collecting suggestions on what provisions should be included in the Fee Regulation Bill.
Atishi accused the BJP government of pushing the bill without public consultation, stating:
"This bill is being brought in through the backdoor to protect private school interests, not the parents. AAP will become the voice of every parent."
She assured parents that her party, even from the opposition, would continue to fight against the education mafia, just as it did while in power.
Parents Express Anger Over Fee HikeParents shared harrowing experiences of alleged exploitation by private schools.
Mahesh Mishra, a parent whose child studies at DPS Dwarka, said:
"When we protested against the arbitrary fee hike, our children were locked inside the school library."
Another parent, Umang Sharma, expressed frustration over the lack of transparency in the drafting process of the new bill, saying:
Demand to Make the Bill Public"We’ve been given a lollipop. No feedback was taken from us, and now the government wants to pass the bill secretly."
Atishi criticized the BJP government for allegedly hiding the draft of the bill. She said:
“Why is the draft not being made public? If the government is confident in its intentions, why the secrecy?”
She further claimed that during AAP’s governance, school fees were regulated and arbitrary hikes were not allowed. Now, with BJP in power, schools have resumed uncontrolled fee increases with administrative backing.
Public Opinion Invited on AAP’s EmailAAP has launched an initiative to gather public suggestions for the bill through the email . Party MLAs are also visiting various areas to engage with affected parents.
Key Demands by AAP-
Make the draft of the Fee Regulation Bill public
-
Ensure mandatory CAG audit of private schools
-
Provide audit reports to all parents
-
Refer the bill to a Select Committee in the Assembly
-
Prohibit politically-backed arbitrary fee hikes
Atishi concluded by stating that AAP will raise the issue in the monsoon session of the Delhi Assembly and demand accountability from the BJP-led administration.
“Schools are temples of learning. We will not allow them to become profit centers. We are with the parents at every step.”
