Dussehra 2025: A heartbreaking incident has unfolded in Khandwa district, Madhya Pradesh, on the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami. During the immersion of a Durga idol, a tractor-trolley carrying devotees overturned into a pond, killing 11 people. Eight innocent girls are among the deceased. The entire area is mourning the tragedy.
This tragic accident occurred in Jamli village, in the Pandhana area of Khandwa. Rural devotees were traveling in a tractor-trolley to a pond to immerse the Durga idol. The trolley lost balance and fell into the pond. Several people on board drowned in the deep water.
1 body has been recovered so far, many are still missing.Indore Range Inspector General of Police Anurag said that so far 11 bodies have been pulled from the pond, including eight girls. Many others are feared drowned. Relief and rescue operations are continuing on a war footing.
SDRF and diving team on the spotPolice and administration teams, along with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local divers, are continuously conducting search operations in the pond. An additional SDRF team has also been dispatched to the scene to expedite the rescue efforts. IG Anurag stated that some devotees swam out of the pond after the accident and are in stable condition. The exact cause of the accident is being investigated, although overloading of the trolley is considered a possible cause.
CM Mohan Yadav expressed grief and announced compensationChief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed deep condolences over the accident. He wrote on Twitter that the accidents during Durga immersion in Khandwa and Ujjain were extremely tragic. The Chief Minister has ordered an ex-gratia of ₹4 lakh each to the families of the deceased and proper treatment for the injured.
The Chief Minister prayed to Goddess Durga for the speedy recovery of all the injured and to provide strength to the bereaved families in this hour of grief.
