There will be a change in the prices of UHT milk, cheese, ghee, butter and ice cream.
Prices of major dairy products like UHT milk, paneer, ghee, butter, cheese and milkshakes are going to come down after the government's announcements. GST on these products has been reduced from 5-18% to 0-5%. For example, 1 liter UHT milk (tetra pack) will now cost Rs 75, down from Rs 77. At the same time, 500 grams of butter will come down from Rs 305 to Rs 285. Similarly, Mother Dairy's ice cream and Safal's processed foods will also become cheaper. Ice creams like Choco Vanilla Cone and Kesar Pista Kulfi have become cheaper by Rs 5-10. At the same time, the prices of Safal products like frozen French fries, potato tikki and packaged coconut water will come down by Rs 5 to Rs 15. Mother Dairy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), said the price of paneer (200 grams) will come down from Rs 95 to Rs 92, ghee carton pack (1 liter) from Rs 675 to Rs 645 and butter 100 grams from Rs 62 to Rs 58.
Packaged milk for daily use is already GST-free.
Packaged milk for daily use such as full cream milk, toned milk, cow milk, etc. have always been GST-free and will not attract any GST in future. In such a situation, the latest changes will not have any impact on their maximum retail price (MRP). Mother Dairy Managing Director Manish Bandlish said that the recent reduction in GST on a wide range of dairy and processed food products is a progressive step. This will significantly increase consumption and accelerate the adoption of safe, high-quality packaged products.
Amul had made this announcement before Mother Dairy
Manish said, "Keeping in mind the spirit of this reform, we are passing on 100% tax benefits to our customers from September 22, 2025." He further added that with this change, the company's entire portfolio is now either exempted/zero or in the lowest slab of 5%. Just a few days ago, Amul, one of the most popular dairy brands in the country, had clarified that there will be no reduction in the prices of pouch milk from September 22 as it already attracts zero percent GST.
