Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on a two-day visit to Japan for the 15th annual India-Japan Summit, underlined the importance of Japan as a key partner in India’s economic journey. Addressing the India-Japan Joint Economic Forum in Tokyo, Modi said that India offers the best opportunities for investment and that the partnership between the two nations reflects deep mutual trust.

PM Modi noted that Japanese companies have already invested over 40 billion dollars in India, with 30 billion dollars coming in just the past two years. “Our cooperation spans from metro rail to manufacturing, semiconductors to startups, and has become a strong symbol of trust between us,” he said.

The Prime Minister also emphasized that Japan has consistently supported India’s development initiatives. He expressed happiness that his visit began with an interaction with leading business figures, many of whom he has known since his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister.

Highlighting India’s rapid progress, Modi said, “In the last 11 years, India has undergone an unprecedented transformation. With political stability, economic stability, transparent policies, and predictability, India today is the fastest-growing major economy. Very soon, it will become the world’s third-largest economy.”

He pointed out that reforms in India go beyond taxation, with a strong focus on ease of doing business, including single-window digital approvals. Modi also mentioned that S&P Global upgraded India’s credit rating after two decades, reflecting global confidence in India’s growth story.

Calling on Japanese companies to expand their presence in India, the Prime Minister said, “Our partnership in the auto sector has been extremely successful. Now, together, we can create the same success in batteries, robotics, semiconductors, shipbuilding, and nuclear energy. Together, we can also make a significant contribution to the Global South, especially Africa.”

Concluding his address, Modi urged Japanese businesses to invest further: “Come to India and let us build the world together.”
