Donald Trump is expected to land in Scotland today as he begins a five-day private trip to the country, where he owns two golf courses. The US President departed from the White House this afternoon after briefly speaking to reporters. In his remarks, he reacted to Emmanuel Macron's decision to recognise the state of Palestine by saying: "What he says doesnt matter."
The US President's visit will require a huge police presence, with thousands of officers dispatched to Scotland ahead of his arrival on Friday. The high security operation has been launched in response to planned demonstrations across the country, including in South Ayrshire and Aberdeenshire, where Trump's golf resorts are based. His last presidential visit in 2018 was met with thousands of people taking to the streets of Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen, and a paraglider flown over his Turnberry resort criticising the leader.
