Emma Raducanu got her Wimbledon campaign started with a convincing victory overa familiar foe in 17-year-old wildcard Mimi Xu. Raducanu knows the Welsh-born teenager well and even speaks with Xu's mother in Mandarin. But they became rivals when they met on Court 1 for day one of the Championships.
The world No. 40 breezed through the first set, breaking twice. But the second set turned into a rollercoaster as the teenage wildcard found some confidence, and there were five consecutive breaks before Raducanu eventually sealed a 6-3 6-3 victory.
Raducanu will now face 2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova in a blockbuster second-round meeting of Grand Slam winners. The Brit beat Vondrousova here on her debut in 2021.
