There's nothing worse in your home than a smelly bin. Over time, your bin can build up dirt - you might find spills and splatters in it or rubbish crushed into the lid if it often becomes overfilled.
This can lead to a horrible smell wafting out every time you open it - and it's one that can make your whole kitchen stink. You should regularly clean your bin, making sure to use antibacterial cleaning products.
Even if your bin seems clean, it's crucial to wipe over the lid with a clean microfibre cloth, or use a disinfectant wipe.
But one woman on TikTok has shared an innovative hack which will keep it smelling fresher for longer.
The woman, who goes by the username @carolina.mccauley, shares her home cleaning tips to a huge 2.7million following.
In a clip shared on the social media platform, she can be seen attaching toilet gel deodorisers to the bin's lid to "keep it smelling fresh".
Commenters shared their hacks for making their bin smell better. One person said they use scent beads and place these at the bottom of their bin, another said they use a car air fresher.
Others say they use scented bin bags or place some essential oil in their bin.
While this will help your bin smell better, it's crucial to make sure you properly clean it before adding these items.
Good Housekeeping says: "When you feel like your bin needs a full refresh, take it into your garden, or use a bathtub/shower if you're short on outdoor space, and spray it with a hose, pressure washer or shower head.
"Once it's rinsed, give it a thorough scrub with antibacterial spray. Rinse and then leave to dry fully with the lid open before replacing the bag."
By making sure your bin is clean, you won't need to face the all too common problem of noticing a smell waft through your home.
