Luke Littler makes frightening claim after Luke Humphries Premier League final defeat

vowed to "break his own records" following final defeat against familiar foe on Thursday night. The two superstars of the sport met in the showpiece event at London's O2 Arena, with Humphries being named Premier League champion - and completing the Triple Crown in the process - with an 11-8 win.

Littler, who was defending the Premier League title he won last year, struggled for rhythm throughout the night and even though he eventually progressed past semi-final opponent Gerwyn Price, it wasn't without struggle. The teenager fell behind early on in the contest and was seen storming off stage during the mid-match interval.

Once again unable to find top gear in the final, Littler admitted that he was deflated by the defeat but insisted he'll bounce back stronger. Speaking to Sky Sports after the final, Littler stated: "Had a bit of a thing after the game, as you do, nobody likes losing. Yeah I'm fine, glad to say it's over. It's been a tough 17 weeks, came runner-up, I'll be back next year. I've set many records, personally don't think they'll be broken. I'll go next year and try to break my own records."

It's a message that will put the likes of Humphries, Michael van Gerwen and Price on red alert, given how dominant Littler has been during this year's campaign. The teen finished top of the eight-man standings with a record haul of 45 points, 11 ahead of second-placed Humphries and 25 clear of Van Gerwen - the highest-ranked arrowsmith not to qualify for the play-offs.

The next big event on the darts schedule for Littler will come in Germany at the World Cup, where he'll partner Premier League victor Humphries to make up a formidable Team England duo. Looking ahead to the tournament, the Nuke said: "I can't wait, obviously he [Humphries] won it last year, so he can help lead me to victory."

Humphries, on the World Cup, added: "Well, we won't play like that [laughs] that's for sure. We're both really good friends, but we're good players. If we connect, then we're going to stand a great chance of winning it. I know the pressure is going to be on us, we believe that we can win and if we do play our best, I don't think anybody is going to be able to stop us."

The World Cup gets underway on 12 June and runs through until 15 June. A total prize fund of £450,000 is on offer throughout the tournament, with 40 nations from across the globe taking part at the event in Germany.
