A man has died after hitting the central reservation following a medical episode on a major UK motorway. Motorists on the M1 faced severe delays as both directions between J41 and J40 nearWakefield were initially closed. According to the Inrix traffic system, it was reported at 8.15 today (July 2).
West Yorkshire Police confirmed the death of the man in his 70s. The force said he was driving a Kia EV3. The incident also involved a VW Tiguan.
Inrix said earlier today: "All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to serious accident on M1 in both directions from J41 A650 (Carrgate) to J40 A638 Wakefield Road ( Ossett/ Wakefield).
"Traffic is now held in both directions." The northbound carriageway has since reopened.
