Man Utd learn what it will cost to sign Christopher Nkunku from Chelsea

Manchester United have been informed of a £35million price tag to secure the services of Chelsea striker Christopher Nkunku. The Red Devils have identified the underperforming Nkunku as a potential addition to their forward line, with Chelsea prepared to take a significant loss on the player they acquired for £52m just two years ago.

At 27, Nkunku has become surplus to requirements at Chelsea following their purchase of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap for a combined £90m this summer. The Blues have also announced a £52m deal for Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Gittens, continuing their big-spending trend. However, Chelsea will need to offload players after being hit with a hefty £78.5m fine by UEFA for breaching spending rules.

A substantial portion of the fine - £51m - is suspended, but Chelsea must still comply and are gearing up for a major clear-out this summer. French international Nkunku is on United's radar, although they're also considering Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins.

United are keen to part ways with Alejandro Garnacho, who has previously attracted interest from Chelsea, but financial constraints and compliance with UEFA's sanctions may limit their options.

This situation could have paved the way for a potential swap deal, but Chelsea might need to focus on straightforward sales and reducing their squad size. With forwards like Nicolas Jackson in their ranks, whose disciplinary record has made him somewhat of a liability, Chelsea have plenty of decisions to make ahead of the new season.

The arrival of Brazilian ace Pedro, who can operate as a central striker or on the wings, has heightened speculation about Nkunku's future at the club.

Although the former RB Leipzig forward may not be United's primary target, he could prove to be a cost-effective alternative, particularly as they are keen to secure Bryan Mbeumo's signature, having already brought in Matheus Cunha from Wolves.
