As temperatures remain keeps appearing, many of us are planning picnics and BBQ's - and of course the best part about any summer party is the food, and no buffet table or picnic blanket would be complete without some delicious While supermarkets offer plenty of coleslaw options, a small tub can be pricey and run out quickly.
Making your own coleslaw is easy and cheap. Plus you can make a huge bowl that will feed the whole family. Like many summer recipes, it is packed with colourful vegetables, and is light and creamy. It comes together in minutes and keeps well in the fridge if you make it ahead of time.
It is the perfect accompaniment to burgers, fried chicken, hot dogs, pulled pork, ribs, and salad. It is also works well in sandwiches. Viral recipe creator Max, better known as Meals with Max and boasts 2.2million followers, shared his ultimate coleslaw dish. He insisted: "Stop buying coleslaw, this one is creamer and crunchier." He noted it takes just five minutes to make.
To prepare the treat you will need white cabbage, two carrots, and an onion - you can use a white or red onion.
Max says he cuts a cabbage in half, before cutting a little 'V' shape at the bottom so it can easily be cut in half again - making for easy chopping. He puts one of the flat sides of the cabbage down on a chopping board before chopping it into fine slices - and repeats the same with the other half.
Add the slices into a bowel, and then use a grater to shred his carrots. He then chops up an onion into strips and adds that into the bowl too.
To create the perfect dressing Max advises to add a few tablespoons of mayonaise into a separate bowl, plus a table spoon of yogurt, half a teaspoon of dijon mustard and a squeeze of lemon. For seasoning, add some black pepper and some salt.
Max added: "Sometimes I like to add just a touch of honey." Stir the mixture together well, and your dressing is complete.
Max commented: "The mayo and the yogurt add a lovely, creamy base, the dijon mustard adds a slight tang and sharpness. Lemon juice adds a little bit of freshness and acidity and the honey, just the sweetness of that helps to balance all the flavours."
Poor your dressing into your bowl of chopped veg and mixed it well until it is all fully combined. Commenting on the video, one said: "It is SO easy to make coleslaw. I used to make it by the bucket in a local deli."
Another added: "I love homemade coleslaw. I eat bucket loads of it in the summer." One other wrote: "I don't like coleslaw but this actually sounds good."
Another coleslaw fan said: "This looks absolutely delicious I'm definitely going to make this."
