There is a stunning town in Europe so well-preserved that you have to see it to believe it. Europe is full of popular towns and cities that Brits visit every year. Popular city breaks include the likes of Vienna, Madrid, Prague and Berlin. Meanwhile, there are also plenty of great resort towns that Brits flock to regularly, mainly in the likes of Spain, Portugal, France and Greece. However, there are some spots you may have never heard of that are worth visiting.
One of them is a town located in Germany that is criminally overlooked by British tourists. When you arrive, you won't believe how picture-perfect it is. One TikTok user even called it a place that looks like ot was taken straight out of a picture book. Germany, in general, has many underrated villages, towns and cities. And this one might just be the most beautiful and well-kept spot in the city. While we love the thrill of Berlin and the beer gardens of Munich, this place has such a unique charm.
The town in question is called Rothenburg ob der Tauber. This town is home to just over 11,000 people, making it relatively small compared to other popular tourist spots in the country.
It is located in northern Bavaria, and its closest major cities are Nuremberg and Stuttgart. So, if you were to travel from the UK, you would most likely fly directly to Munich or Stuttgart and then take a train to the town.
While you are there, there is plenty for you to see and do. Apart from taking in the historic charm of this place, with its centuries-old buildings, cobbled streets and charming shops, there are top-rated tourist attractions to see and experience.
Among the best things to do in Rothenburg ob der Tauber are the Blade Gate, the Town Walls, the Rothenburg Town Hall, the Medieval Crime and Justice Museum, and the Rothenburg Town History Museum.
Meanwhile, there are plenty of cafes and eateries where you can get great coffee and try local cuisine. The town has received rave reviews from people who have visited it.
One TripAdvisor reviewer wrote: "Last September my wife and I visited Rothenberg and loved it. Yes, there were lots of tourists during the day (busloads to be precise), I found it to be terrific to wander around the town all day. Once away from the center of town, it did not seem so touristy at all. In the evening, we sat at an outdoor café in the center and people watched and met some wonderful folks."
Meanwhile, one Yelp user said: "Cute town like a German Christmas postcard! Definitely something to see once. If you're staying in the town, I do think 1 night is plenty to get everything done."
Another said: "It is quaint, even when full of tourists. There really isn't much vehicle traffic; it's mostly foot, because inside the wall is so walkable, that's what you do!"
A third shared: "It's an enchanting, largely preserved medieval walled city in Central Franconia (in Ansbach District in Northern Bavaria ). Walls with their roof/side coverings surround this city, and you can still walk on some parts of the city. It's fun to imagine being a medieval archer patrolling along the wal,l aiming your arrows through slits."
