Chennai: More than 100 trained personnel are deployed at airport to help passengers register themselves on the DigiYatra app and to address issues they face at the e-gates.
DigiYatra, a biometric-based digital boarding system, was introduced at the airport a year ago, but did not receive many users. The facility uses facial recognition technology to verify a traveller's identity for seamless entry, and boarding without physical documents.
Chennai airport authorities aim to increase the number of passengers using the facility from the current 15% to 40% soon. They have enlisted BVG India to deploy Digi Buddies to assist passengers. Airport Director CV Deepak inaugurated the programme recently.
In the T1 domestic terminal, all the gates have three dedicated DigiYatra lanes, except Gate 1. The T4 domestic terminal also has DigiYatra lanes except in Gate 16. Apart from aiding flyers in registering on DigiYatra, the buddies will also help address complaints regarding passengers' boarding passes not being recognised in the system and assist those who want to use DigiYatra without getting biometrics recorded TNN
