JAIPUR: A 35-year-old man was found dead with his throat slit on Kalwar Road under the Jhotwara police station area Friday morning. SHO (Jhotwara) Rajendra Singh said the deceased was identified as Anand Sharma.
The police team that reached the scene to enquire about the events leading to his death found Sharma and allegedly slit his own throat with a paper cutter. Police said that Sharma, a native of Bansur in Alwar district, who was previously sent to jail in New Delhi in connection with a murder case, was released recently on bail and was working as a sculptor in Jaipur.
Police said the incident occurred around 8 am when Sharma allegedly harassed a woman sanitation worker for the third time in a week. "She informed her husband, who began keeping watch during her duty hours," said an official.
On Friday, Sharma, reportedly under the influence of a substance, again followed and harassed the woman. Her husband spotted him, leading to a scuffle. Locals intervened after the woman raised an alarm. As they surrounded Sharma, he allegedly took out a paper cutter and slit his own throat multiple times.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene. "Come catch me now," Sharma shouted while drenched in blood, chasing bystanders with the cutter before collapsing on the roadside.
Police rushed Sharma to Kanwatia Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival due to excessive blood loss. An FSL team was called to the scene to collect forensic evidence. "We have sought Sharma's previous criminal cases. We know that he was jailed in a murder case, and we have sought details of the same," said the official.
