Ranchi: Members of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal staged a demonstration outside the Governor's House on Saturday, protesting against rising communal tensions in West Bengal.
The protesters, led by VHP's Ranchi unit, condemned the recent violence in Murshidabad and demanded President's Rule in the Mamata Banerjee-led state, alleging targeted attacks on Hindus. The unrest in Murshidabad erupted on April 11 during protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act.
Demonstrators raised slogans against the Trinamool Congress govt. VHP Ranchi city president Kailash Kesari said, "The Mamata Banerjee government must be dismissed and President's Rule imposed immediately. The state machinery has completely failed to curb tensions. The government has not only given free rein to rioters but has also assisted in fueling the unrest in some areas."
Kesari claimed that anti-Waqf bill protesters targeted Hindus despite their non-involvement in the bill's formulation. "The bill's passing was a constitutional procedure. The attacks forced over 500 Hindu families to flee Murshidabad and seek shelter elsewhere," he added.
The organizations submitted a memorandum to the President through Ranchi District Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri. Their demands included:
