India test fires 'Bhargavastra' indigenous air defence system to counter drone threats

Three rocket trials were carried out at Gopalpur on May 13, witnessed by senior Army officials. ‘Bhargavastra,’ a new affordable counter-drone system developed by Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited (SDAL), marks a significant advancement in tackling the growing threat of drone swarms.

The system’s micro rockets were thoroughly tested at the Seaward Firing Range in Gopalpur, successfully meeting all performance targets. Read full story

Cabinet approves 6th semiconductor unit, a joint venture by HCL Group , Foxconn

The upcoming unit will be set up near Jewar airport in Uttar Pradesh, within the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) region. It is a joint venture between the HCL Group—known for its longstanding expertise in hardware development—and global electronics manufacturing giant Foxconn, involving an investment of approximately Rs 3,706 crore.


The plant will produce display driver chips used in mobile phones, laptops, automobiles, PCs, and a wide range of other devices. Designed to handle 20,000 wafers per month, the unit will have a production capacity of 36 million chips monthly. It is also expected to generate around 2,000 jobs, boosting local employment and technological infrastructure. Read full story

India refutes China's claim on Arunachal Pradesh, strongly objects to its attempt to rename places in state

China has repeatedly released maps renaming various locations in Arunachal Pradesh. In 2024, it escalated the practice by assigning 30 more names to sites in the region—an action firmly rejected by the government.

"We have noticed that China has persisted with its vain and preposterous attempts to name places in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. Consistent with our principled position, we reject such attempts categorically," MEA said. Read full story

Pakistan gets $1,023 million as second tranche from IMF under extended fund facility

This comes amid rising scrutiny over Pakistan's financial stability and international borrowing. Last week, India abstained from a vote at the IMF executive board meeting, voicing strong reservations over ongoing IMF bailout packages for Pakistan. Citing the country’s long-standing reliance on IMF loans and its consistent failure to meet programme conditions, India warned that Pakistan has become a "too big to fail" debtor, raising questions about the sustainability of continued financial support.

During discussions on Pakistan’s $1 billion Extended Fund Facility and a proposed $1.3 billion Resilience and Sustainability Facility, India expressed concerns over the effectiveness of IMF interventions. Read full story

BSF jawan, Pakistani ranger exchanged at Attari-Wagah border after India-Pakistan tensions ease out

The Pakistani Ranger was captured by BSF personnel near the international border in Rajasthan’s Sriganganagar district.
