As Vivek Ramaswamy was speaking at Ohio's Marion County as part of his gubernatorial bid for the state where he was born, Ramaswamy said his wife Dr Apoorva is the true hero of his family as she saves lives. "I think maybe some of you know her in the audience," Vivek Ramaswamy said as three members in the audience shared their experience of being Apoorva's patients.
Ramaswamy said both Apoorva and he lived the American dream that he now wants everyone in Ohio to have.
"So proud of my wife Apoorva. When I mentioned her in Marion County tonight, one of her patients in the audience raised his hand & talked about how she saved him. And then another man in the back stood up and said the same. Then so did someone else whose family member Apoorva had treated. Very grateful for the true hero of our family," Ramaswamy shared his speech on X.
"My path to the American dream went through a four-year college degree program. My parents came to this country with nothing. Cincinnati, Ohio -- 45 years ago. In a single generation, I went on to found a successful company, develop life-saving medicines for patients who needed them. Ended up marrying my wife Apoorva who is the true hero in the family. She is a throat surgeon...we are in this together. She has lived the American dream," Ramaswamy said.
Vivek and Apoorva spoke many times about how they met. At that time, Vivek was a law student and Apoorva was in the first week of her medical school. Apoorva approached Vivek first as she found him to be the most interesting person in the room. She told him that she had met another person named Vivek and Ramaswamy lost all interest in the conversation and walked away. But they then realized that they were neighbors and had a common upbringing. They had their first date at a vegetarian restaurant near their residence. They got married in 2015 and are parents to two children: Karthik and Arjun.
