LPG Price Cut on 1 May 2025: Commercial Cylinder Rates Drop Up to ₹17, Domestic Prices Unchanged

New Delhi, 1 May 2025 In a welcome relief for businesses and commercial consumers, LPG cylinder prices have been reduced across India starting 1 May 2025. According to updated rates from Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), the 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder is now up to ₹17 cheaper, depending on the city. However, domestic LPG prices remain unchanged since the last revision in April.

Commercial LPG Cylinder Prices Cut in Metro Cities

The revised prices for the 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder effective 1 May 2025 are as follows:

• Delhi: ₹1,747.50 (down from ₹1,762 in April)

• Kolkata: ₹1,851.50 (down from ₹1,868.50)

• Mumbai: ₹1,699 (down from ₹1,713.50)

• Chennai: ₹1,906.50 (down from ₹1,921.50)

This is the second reduction in commercial LPG rates in consecutive months. On 1 April, the cylinder in Delhi saw a ₹41 price cut, and now a further ₹14.50 drop has been implemented.

Domestic LPG Prices Hold Steady

Domestic LPG prices were last revised on 8 April 2025, when the price of the 14.2-kg household LPG cylinder was increased by ₹50 after nearly a year-long pause. As of 1 May, the domestic cylinder prices remain:

• Delhi: ₹853

• Kolkata: ₹879

• Mumbai: ₹852.50

• Chennai: ₹868.50

Subsidy & Ujjwala Scheme Benefits

As of 2025, India has 32.9 crore LPG connections, of which 10.33 crore are provided under the PM Ujjwala Yojana. Beneficiaries of this scheme continue to get a ₹300 subsidy on LPG cylinders.

In the 2025-26 Union Budget, the Indian government has allocated ₹11,100 crore for LPG subsidies, in contrast to the ₹22,000 crore provided in 2022-23 to offset under-recoveries by oil marketing companies.

Regional Differences in Ujjwala Coverage

Southern states like Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh report relatively lower Ujjwala adoption (10%), largely due to overlapping state-run LPG subsidy programs, which reduce dependence on the central scheme.
