Expected to Bridge the Gap Between Grand Vitara and Invicto in Nexa Lineup

New Delhi, April 28 — Maruti Suzuki India has confirmed the launch of a new SUV for the financial year 2025-26, fueling speculation that the upcoming model could be a seven-seater version of the popular Grand Vitara. Although the company has yet to officially name the vehicle, industry insiders suggest it will build upon the Grand Vitara platform while offering expanded seating and premium features.

Maruti Suzuki’s move aligns with its recent strategy to strengthen its SUV portfolio, transitioning from a lineup dominated by compact cars to one focusing on larger, mass-premium models.

New Maruti Suzuki SUV: What We Know So Far

The new SUV is expected to be positioned between the current Grand Vitara and the premium Maruti Suzuki Invicto, targeting families seeking a three-row seating configuration at a more accessible price point.

Sharing the Grand Vitara’s Global-C platform, the upcoming model is likely to inherit most of its mechanical elements, including the powertrains:

  • 1.5-litre four-cylinder mild hybrid petrol engine:

    • Power: 120 bhp

    • Torque: 137 Nm

    • Transmission: 5-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter automatic

  • 1.5-litre three-cylinder strong hybrid petrol engine:

    • Power: 113 bhp

    • Torque: 122 Nm

    • Transmission: eCVT automatic only

At this stage, it remains unclear whether the new SUV will offer an all-wheel drive (AWD) option or a CNG variant.

Design Changes to Differentiate from the Grand Vitara

While the new SUV will likely retain many mechanical components from the Grand Vitara, spy images suggest notable design differences, especially at the rear. Key expected updates include:

  • Redesigned rear end with new LED taillights

  • Revised rear bumper and extended overhang

  • Longer wheelbase for improved cabin space

  • Longer rear doors to facilitate easier access to the third row

These changes aim to create a distinct identity for the upcoming model while enhancing its practicality and family-friendly appeal.

Nexa Channel Launch Likely

Maruti Suzuki has been aggressively pushing its Nexa channel as a premium retail experience, and the new SUV is anticipated to be sold exclusively through Nexa outlets, reinforcing the brand’s mass-premium positioning in the Indian market.

More details, including official launch timelines, variant options, and pricing, are expected to emerge in the coming months as Maruti Suzuki prepares for yet another strong entry in the competitive SUV segment.
